Having disorganized masters on poor quality media with missing files, is no different than having no masters at all.

If you have worked at a record label, publishing company, or management firm for any amount of time, you have either heard stories or experienced first hand the frustration of not being able to locate masters.  Needing a TV Track for a TV appearance the next morning... a placement agency wanting an instrumental for a commercial or prime time TV show sync later in the week... a deluxe edition re-release, greatest hits compilation, or something as simple as needing to recall a mix the day before going to mastering.

No matter what the situation, nobody wants to be in the position of having to say "We can’t get you what you need because we don't know where our masters are."

The value of a record company or publisher is directly related to the content and organization of its catalog.  Properly archiving your projects in a standard and easily accessible format on reliable media that will stand for decades is not only practical for immediate and short term needs, it's essential for maintaining long term financial interests for future monetization of your masters.
